Mushroom Poisoning & ID
Poison Control Center
If you think you may be ill from eating mushrooms, call the Poison Control Center 1 800 222 1222. This is a national toll-free number - when calling it within Washington State , you will reach the Washington Poison Center. If you are out of state, you can still call 1 800 222 1222 but you will reach the poison center local to that calling area. For more information, see poisoning.
Mushroom Identification
If you would like help with mushroom identification, bring your mushrooms to our monthly meeting or ID Clinic, or email photos to id@psms.org.
Please note that reliable identification by photo may not be possible. You are encouraged to email us to learn more about any mushrooms you find, but we recommend you don't eat anything that wasn't identified by us in person. Please send high quality, detailed photos of every part of the mushroom; for example, the top of the cap, underneath the cap, and the entirety of the stem.
ID Clinics
During the spring and fall mushroom seasons, identifiers from PSMS will be available for people to drop in with their mushroom findings and ask questions on Monday evenings at CUH. Literature will be available there for reference. For more information, see ID clinic.
